Highly recommended! As a lifelong native San Franciscan, most books written about The City disappoint as they typically describe the generic side of modern San Francisco. The real San Francisco is a small town of secret vistas, imaginative surprises, fine artistic sense and creative living. Ms. Petersen's work nails the true character of the city as it's 111 places are those we locals actually seek out to experience- and for some remain the core reasons we're still here. The stunning, the obscure, the joyous, the tiny treasures which we share with our tourist friends, these are the places we celebrate as 'true' San Francisco. Enjoy!

I love love love this book

Wow! I love love love this book...it made me fall in love (again) with this great city. Even though I lived there for years, there are many new places I can't wait to explore. Like "Sex and the City" was about a love affair -- with the city of NY, this book is a love affair with the city of San Francisco. This is not just a book for tourists, local residents should all own a copy!

Great For Locals And Tourisrs Alike

I have lived in San Francisco for eight years and am an avid walker. You would think by now I would have seen it all. I thought so. But this book has proven otherwise. It is full of hidden gem destinations that not even lifers may know about and each destination is accompanied by a succinct description of its importance and significance as well as an artistic photo. The photos are all captioned by the location address, bus routes and a useful "tip". It is a great resource by which to plan a walk and small enough to take along. It's a terrific book.

Travis Victor Alexander was a good looking, charismatic, entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He had a support group, many friends and a purpose. Travis did not let his dark childhood stop him from accomplishing great things in his life. He used his negative experiences to propel him into a life of abundance and success by becoming better every day.

Like many single, thirty-year-old men, he was dating in hopes of finding Mrs. Right, so he could get married, start a family and live the good life. Unfortunately, Jodi Arias, one of the women Travis was dating, was a psychopath. When Travis was dating her, they were living in different states. Soon after he broke things off, she moved within a mile of his house in Mesa, Arizona! She stalked him, hacked his email and social media accounts, and made his life unlivable. Her manipulation, lies, conniving, need for control and invasive behaviors were too much for Travis and he finally convinced her to move back to Yreka, California in April of 2008. On May 26, 2008 Travis finally saw Jodi for the evil monster she is. Via text, chat and email, they got into a huge fight. In June 2008, she set off on a 1,027 mile road trip to Mesa, Arizona to murder Travis. With Travis’ blood still under her fingernails, she headed to Utah to hook-up with a new love interest. Travis was found with twenty-nine stab wounds, shot in the face, and with his throat slit from ear to ear.

After a heart-wrenching, five-year delay, the case finally went to trial, and became one of the highest profile murder trials in recent history. On May 8, 2013, his killer was convicted of first-degree, pre-meditated murder. During the grueling, ten month trial, which was in large part a circus act of character assassination, lies and fiction, Travis’s life was purposefully distorted and despicably misrepresented.

This book was written to share with the world who Travis Victor Alexander was, the reality of what he endured, and the positive impact he continues to have on the world. Where is Travis when you need him? Or should that be where is Travis when she needs him?) Sky won fifty dollars for a “Keep Our City Clean” essay contest in fourth grade. It was published in the local newspaper of the small town of Murrieta, California where Sky grew up. Since then, she worked hard to meet the minimum requirements for all of the writing assignments she was given in her pursuit to graduate from Brigham Young University in 1999. Travis Alexander deserves for his truth to be told. We are so thankful to Chris and Sky for doing it so eloquently and with love. His picture hangs on the wall with the photos of their children as a beloved family member. It is with that deep emotion and true friendship this book was written. Travis Victor Alexander has inspired people all over the world. With the writing of his story, he may continue to do so well into the future. His is a story of hope and goodness conquering evil. All he ever wanted his whole life was to love and be loved. On the day of his book release I speak for thousands who say, Travis you are LOVED. I hope ALL GOOD THINGS for Chris, Sky, all of the friends and certainly Travis' brave, lovely family who became America's family. This was amazing and Juan Martinez was Travis' angel throughout this trial. Travis' life meant so much, and it's evident because of how many people he has affected. The truth of who Jodi really is as a person came out at sentencing and we all know what she said. I just want to personally thank Chris and Sky Hughes for this book and what they have done for Travis and his legacy. There are no other words to express my gratitude.

I just purchased the long awaited book, "Our Friend Travis". I look forward to the true and loving account of his life as told by his dear friends Chris and Sky Hughes. With our collective breaths held we rejoiced in the just sentencing of his convicted murderer, Jodi Ann Arias. I hope that all supporters of Travis, his family, and his friends will join me in supporting and spreading the legacy of Travis Alexander.

A Brilliant and Pure Scintillating Story

If you have not read this book, then I'm begging you....yes, begging you....to add it to your bookshelf. Then, bump it up to the top of that to-be-read shelf that accumulates so much dust. Dust if off, pick it up, and lose yourself in this alluring story! You won't regret it!

Tailspin! That's exactly what I found myself in from the first sentence, not the first page, the very first sentence in this book! Wendi Cassel has delivered a brilliant tale of desire, betrayal, healing, and commitment to the pages, unlike any other I've read. There are so many times while reading this book that I found myself holding my breath one minute and squeeing with delight the next.

Hailey is a character with whom I can easily connect and identify. She has struggled with the pain of loss, fought for her place in this unfair universe which is life, and she constantly analyzes each situation with what ifs. We've all had them, I'm sure. What if I had done this differently? What if this happens? This is simply Hailey, and she relies on her head instead of her heart. But, when she meets Andrew, everything changes. Hailey has never needed anybody for anything, but she was surprised to discover she needed Andrew.

Andrew Grayson is the debonaire aristocrat who is now my new book boyfriend (we all know I love a British hero). He reminds me of so many of my book boyfriends in the past, yet he isn't like those boyfriends. He is able to stand alone in this category of highness I tend to place my literary heroes. You will know the ones I'm talking about: Christian, Gabriel, Edward, Gideon, and Bones. Andrew has the world at his feet, yet he is caught in a web of lies, deceit, and betrayal at the hands of his own family. Andrew also suffers from the disease of What ifs, but Andrew's what ifs were so special, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

This is not a love at first sight story, although there is an attraction or fascination at first sight. The pacing of the romance that blossoms between Andrew and Hailey is perfectly paced. But, this story isn't just about a romance between Andrew and Hailey. It is so much more! There are betrayals on so many levels. Family secrets that have been hidden for years are uncovered....so many family secrets! Torment of one family became commonplace. Yet, there is healing in so many different ways. The chapter headings alone seem to tell a story of their own, and they are so fitting.

Okay, so what did this book do for me? It made me cry...and squee...and swoon...and scream OMG along with a few expletives. My heart was torn out at one point, but stitched together and put back in my body the next moment. My breath was taken away, but I was recusitated only to be transformed. Have you ever experienced that feeling that something really bad is coming, but you don't know what it is?

How to relate to geography without memorizing facts and figures

This 1937 book tells the story of how humankind is shaped by geography - where we live in the natural world and why. As with all of Van Loon's books, there are plenty of illustrations. Don't let a few out-dated names and beliefs sway the main lesson from this book - that geographic features have a major part in the story of humankind's settlements. A most enjoyable read.

I had read this book many years ago and thought my granddaughter would enjoy a presentation about a neglected subject that didn't read like a school textbook. In several respects it is dated and even factually obsolete but overall it is still interesting and quite readable.

About the Author

Wendell Odom, CCIE No. 1624 (Emeritus), has been in the networking industry since 1981. He has worked as a network engineer, consultant, systems engineer, instructor, and course developer; he currently works writing and creating certification study tools. This book is his 27th edition of some product for Pearson, and he is the author of all editions of the CCNA R&S and CCENT Cert Guides from Cisco Press. This book is great. I am a Network Admin who has had many of these Cisco books. I hate them! This one is the first book from Cisco that I actually enjoyed reading.
If you have had Cisco books in the past remember that this is not one of them.

Easy to read, Clear and Concise

The Good:
Content: If you have just finished Cisco's Networking Academy and are preparing for the test, you need this book! As many of you NetAcad students already know, the NetAcad material can be long winded and dry. The Official Cert Guide is SO refreshing after NetAcad. The content of this book is clear and concise. A topic that would take 100 pages to explain in Net Acad is explained in 20-30 pages in the Official Cert Guide. I sometimes wonder how Wendell Odom does it. How does he compress all that content into just 20-30 pages?!

Simlite: The free version of the simulator that comes with this book is great as well. It focuses mostly on part 2 of the book. One thing that I enjoyed about it is that it supports the show interfaces status command (a command that is not supported in Packet Tracer). At the time of this review, the full simulator is not out (I would buy it if it was). When it does come out, I'd definitely recommend buying it if you want structured labs that go along with the book. The other (more expensive) alternative to buying the simulator is buying real lab equipment. If you plan on just taking the CCNA, then I recommend 3 x 1841 routers (about $65 each) and 2 x 2960 switches (about $75 each). If you plan on also studying the CCNP then 3 x 2811 routers (about $85 each), 2 x 3560's (about $90 each) and 2 x 2960's will work.

Pictures, Examples, Config Checklists: This book has a lot of pictures (yay pictures!) to help you visualize what the network is doing and how everything is connected together. The pictures really help to solidify the information. The pictures are usually accompanied by examples of how the devices in the picture are configured. Again, this helps reinforce and solidify the concepts. Finally, the Config Checklists make labbing the material SOOO easy. They explain step-by-step what to do to configure a protocol, security, etc. Don't be intimidated by the size of this book! There are A LOT of pictures, examples, and config checklists that take up A LOT of pages.

The bad:
1. Errors: Okay there are a couple of errors (literally 2) that I've found while reading and fact checking this book along with the NetAcad materials. One is in figure 22-5. I won't mention what it is so that you can try to use what you've learned to discover the problem. The other is in table 6-4. The prompt that you see after entering the vlan global configuration command should be (config-vlan)# rather than hostname(vlan)# prompt as listed in the table. The hostname(vlan)# command was the prompt that was used with the legacy method for configuring methods. Also, the errors are so small in significance that it shouldn't dissuade you from buying the book.

Conclusion:
This book is definitely worth the money. It covers the information needed for the exam and I definitely recommend it for anyone who has just finished NetAcad. There are a couple (literally 2!!) of MINOR errors, but they aren't significant enough to not buy the book.

This is a great book with lots of materials in it. I liked it so much I purchased the kindle version so that I could take it with me. The added cd was a bonus that included some simulations. I haven't taken my exam yet but I highly recommend this book if you plan to.
