Barry Eisler tells it like it is

What every Democrat at every level of the food chain absolutely needs to read and understand. There are so few within the party that have a clue regarding how people really think and make decisions, and it's frustrating devoting so much time working for progressive (and ostensibly Democratic Party) causes only to see most of the higher-ups in the party squandering one opportunity after another. Building an ongoing positive narrative should be a primary goal for the party, but few are interested in doing so, deferring instead time and again to advisers and consultants who just don't get it.
.... and this is such a short and easy read too, which should eliminate many objections to tackling the book.

Look at American Politics Through the Mind of a Marketer

It is clear reading this book that Eisler spent a lot of time studying Marketing and Psychology before writing this. One of the best things about this is he explains how he thinks and comes to his conclusions and has an extensive reading list for people who are interested in doing their own research. I'm not even a Democrat and I don't feel any sort of loyalty to any party. That being said if you want to understand politics this is an excellent place to start.

Every Democrat Should Read

Barry Eisler's subtitle hits it right on the head. I'm sure there is a group that is worse at communicating their message and taking it to the opposition, but I shudder to think who it could be. Mr. Eisler - a fabulous thriller writer - turns his pen to politics (much like his blog) and accurately assesses the situation. Get off the mat and act like you know what you are doing!
