Gersmehl makes a convincing argument for "Four Cornerstones" of Geography over national and state Five and Six theme Geography standards. The book provides good examples for classroom use, and offers great rationales for why teaching geography is an absolute must.

Best pedegogy book for teaching geography

I teach Geography and have an entirely different outlook on the subject and my teaching style after reading Gersmehl's text. He has fully applicable ideas for inclassroom use, as well as a down to earth style of explaining the importance of geographic concepts and how to then explain them to students. I read this for a graduate course and wish I had it as part of my undergrad curriculum.
