A missed opportunity

I read this book with my 9 year old. Leonardo da Vinci is a very interesting figure in history and I don't think that this book did a good enough job capturing that, even for a book designed for youths. The book made him sound more like a whiney artist that never finished anything and just bickered back and forth with Michelangelo. The book didn't really go beyond his painting and hardly talked about any of his other ideas. I just felt like this was a wasted opportunity.

Good book with great info about do Vinci. The large font, pictures, and short chapters make it an easy read. We homeschool and we read one "Who Was..." book each week for enrichment. Fast shipping, arrived in perfect condition. Will add it to our collection.

Great. This series while having different authors shares the similarities of quality binding, interesting premises and outstanding content. 7th grade grandson loves them.

Purchased as fun free reading material. So I scanned pages and table of contents but am not going to read a child's book that is for fun enrichment. This series all share a basic format and orientation. Fun time reading. Actual school usage for reports etc... would need other source materials to either confirm or debunk content.

he Blood of Titans is an epic romantic adventure that hearkens back to the origin of African civilization, told with detailed eloquence... an engrossing and well-crafted tale. Forsyth does an excellent job creating Halima's world with details so sharp the reader is easily transported into it.I highly recommend it.

You hold in you the blood of titans

I don't think I have ever a read a book quite like this one. It captivated me from the very beginning and I found myself many times unwilling to place it down until it was completed. It took me less than a day to finish this, and I have to say in honesty that I wish it had not ended, or that there would at least be a part two of some sort. Blood of Titans tells of a young princess forced to marry a king to help form an alliance in an upcoming war, but when ambushed on the way to her wedding her to be husband flees from battle.
I don't want to tell you anymore and spoil anything for anyone so I'm now gonna go into all the things i really enjoyed about this book and I have to tell you there are quite a few things.
One thing I really liked were the proverbs that can be found placed around the book in appropriate situations relating to them. I believe that they gave it a more believable feel. The maxims just helped in drilling into the readers mind the situation. The characters were lovable, with their strength in themselves and wisdom beyond their years. They have great loyalty in those they love. In this story love still prevails even if it's not in the way everyone expects it. This story teaches you many proverbs, lesson of strength and love, and that no matter what happens you have to continue on. No matter how many times you are knocked down, stand up and remember who you are, no matter how many times you are shackled you must break free. For no one can weigh you down for you hold in you the blood of Titans.

I cracked the pages of this book late in the evening thinking I would read a few pages before bed time. I became so enthralled with the beautiful details of the landscape and the characters that I began to live the story with the turn of each page. I stayed up all night reading, leaving only five pages to be read in the morning. Phenomenal!

The Blood of Titans is a beautiful story rich with lavish detail. As you read, you will feel the breeze of the land, take of its beauty, feel the characters' hearts beat and feel their pain.

Additionally, you will find yourself in a casting director's chair as your mind begins to wonder which African American Hollywood star could play each character. You will be left with so much excitement, you may find yourself trying to buy a ticket for a movie that is yet to exist! I've got mine.

Best pedegogy book for teaching geography

I teach Geography and have an entirely different outlook on the subject and my teaching style after reading Gersmehl's text. He has fully applicable ideas for inclassroom use, as well as a down to earth style of explaining the importance of geographic concepts and how to then explain them to students. I read this for a graduate course and wish I had it as part of my undergrad curriculum.

The stories, originally published in The New Yorker magazine, concern Franny and Zooey Glass, two members of the family that was the subject of most of Salinger's short fiction. Franny is an intellectually precocious late adolescent who tries to attain spiritual purification by obsessively reiterating the "Jesus prayer" as an antidote to the perceived superficiality and corruptness of life. She subsequently suffers a nervous breakdown. In the second story, her next older brother, Zooey, attempts to heal Franny by pointing out that her constant repetition of the "Jesus prayer" is as self-involved and egotistical as the egotism against which she rails. -- The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature

About the Author
J D Salinger was born in 1919. He grew up in New York City, and wrote short stories from an early age, but his breakthrough came in 1948 with the publication in The New Yorker of 'A Perfect Day for Bananafish'. The Catcher in the Rye was his first and only novel, published in 1951. It remains one of the most translated, taught and reprinted texts, and has sold some 65 million copies. It was followed by three other books of short stories and novellas, the most recent of which was published in 1963. He lives in Cornish, New Hampshire.

Timeless Wisdom

I read "The Catcher in the Rye" when I was a high school sophomore. That was the book that introduced me to J.D. Salinger and his great storytelling.

Later on in my life, when I was just out of college, my best friend Keith gave me a copy of "Franny and Zooey." He and I often talked about what we wanted out of life. As it turned out this book provided wonderful food for thought and further discussions. It also was a great introduction to other members of the Glass Family and to other stories by Salinger in which they are featured.

Salinger had the ability to write descriptively with an economy of expression and to infuse his characters with enormous sympathy. From the very first scene in the bathroom I immediately identified with Zooey (whose physical attractiveness, intelligence and impatience made me see myself in him). The dialogues have a wonderful humorous quality and they provide a clever device to slide in deeper philosophical insights.

I got this book so that I can give it to my nephew who is the age when he is searching for ultimate meanings. I think that he will find a lot here to like.

Finally. The Answer.

Still the best. When Salinger wrote "The Catcher in the Rye", as well as the short story "A Perfect Day for Bannanafish", he had recognized, almost to perfection, the great trauma of the human condition, as well as honed his ability to articulate it through his damaged heroes who literally "see more" (as in Seymour) than everyone else, and who lead us to an unsettling but truer vision of mortality stripped of its "phoniness". But we had to wait for "Franny and Zooey" before Salinger had worked out, in his own mind, the optimistic and oh so satisfying remedy, inoculation, or vaccine for that perpetual human condition in the resolution of "Franny and Zooey". Reading any of Salinger's works without also reading "Franny and Zooey" is like reading the Bible without looking at the Gospels.

These two stories are beautiful. I absolutely love Salinger and, incidentally, these are my all time favorites. The characters are complex and lovable. I don't know. You just need to read it.

You might think it's just some dissatisfied 20 something year old's view on life. But it is so much more. Keep reading. For goodness sake, just keep reading for the fat lady.
